Traditional Living Room — See Yours Transformed

A traditional living room is the definition of considered comfort: rolled-arm sofas, symmetrical arrangements, rich wood tones, and an atmosphere of permanence. Nothing in this room is trendy because it was designed never to need to be. The room is warm, inviting, and completely at ease with itself.

What Makes a Traditional Living Room?

Seating is generous and upholstered: a camelback or Chesterfield sofa in a woven fabric — damask, toile, or solid velvet — with matching or complementary armchairs in a coordinating print. The arrangement is symmetrical: matching lamps on either side of the sofa, matching chairs flanking the fireplace. A carved wood coffee table and side tables in cherry, mahogany, or walnut complete the grouping.

Window treatments are layered: a sheer panel underneath a tailored drape in a complementary fabric, held back with a tasseled tieback. Crown molding, wainscoting, and a fireplace mantel provide the architectural framework. A Persian or Oriental rug in deep reds, navy, and cream unifies the room. Accessories are curated over time: framed family portraits, leather-bound books, china figurines, and silver candlesticks on the mantel.

Palette: Warm ivory, deep burgundy, hunter green, mahogany, and antique gold
