Mediterranean Living Room — See Yours Transformed

A Mediterranean living room is what happens when a courtyard comes inside: whitewashed plaster walls, arched doorways, hand-painted tile, and the feeling that the sun has been pouring through these windows for centuries. It is unhurried, textural, and deeply human in scale.

What Makes a Mediterranean Living Room?

Furniture is low-to-mid-height and comfortable without pretense: a terracotta-upholstered sofa or one slipcovered in warm linen, a pair of woven leather pouf ottomans, and a carved wood armchair with a padded rush seat. The coffee table is a round hammered copper tray on a low stand, or a carved stone piece. Layers of textiles — a Turkish kilim, a Berber rug, an embroidered throw — cover every hard surface.

Walls are whitewashed plaster with visible texture, arched niches holding ceramic vessels or clusters of candles, and a single large framed mirror in a wrought iron or carved plaster frame. Terracotta pots of olive trees, rosemary, and lavender bring the garden inside. A hand-painted tile feature on the wall or the fireplace surround provides color and craftsmanship. Lighting is warm and flickering: iron lanterns, chunky beeswax candles, and ceramic table lamps with amber shades.

Palette: Sun-bleached white, terracotta, cobalt blue, olive, and warm ochre
