What Makes a Traditional Bedroom?
The bed is substantial: a four-poster in dark walnut or mahogany with fluted columns, or a sleigh bed with a deep curved headboard. Bedding is layered — a tailored coverlet over fine white sheets, with embroidered pillow shams and a decorative pillow in a damask or toile fabric. A foot-of-bed bench in tufted fabric matches the headboard upholstery.
Nightstands are matched, carved wood pieces with drawers and a pullout shelf. Traditional-style lamps with pleated fabric shades sit on each side. A tall armoire or a wardrobe with raised-panel doors and antique brass hardware stores clothing. Window treatments are full-length drapes in a coordinated fabric, lined and interlined for proper weight and light control.
